New items by James Jean

James Jean

James Jean is a wonderfully talented artist who uses subtle imagery to provoke a wide array of thoughts. He has recently released a book called Rift, which is really neat and also very affordable. It has 15 images that are stamped with gold foil to give them a nice tint and adds a shine to the panels. Each book comes signed and with a nice slipcase to keep the cover safe.

Also, James Jean has a new print, Sink II. Jean using gold leaf to beautifully accent the colors in his print. This new edition is limited to 100 copies, so if it suits your fancy you better pick one up before they’re gone!

More images of both the book and the print are included after the break. (more…)

Jackson Hackenwerth

Jackson Hackenwerth

Jackson Hackenwerth is a very unique artist who creates sculptures completely out of balloons. The artist’s work could be described as suspended or wearable brightly colored inflated viruses and parasites, with a sense of humor. These seemingly temporary sculptures are then captured in photos which you can see at Hackenwerth’s website which also has some limited photographic art prints available. It really seems like you’d have to experience these in person to fully appreciate the way the air movement in the room would make these creations come to life. More photos and video below. (more…)

Suckerpunch Trailer

Suckerpunch

Zack Snyder, the director of literal comic book translation movies 300, and Watchmen, is back with an original film entitled “Suckerpunch”. The movie definitely appears to be over the top and full of fantastic looking action sequences, with the same saturated, high-polish finish Snyder’s other films have had. Some may make comparisons to Jamie Hewlett‘s Tank Girl,, as well as the more recent movie Machine Girl, and rightfully so. Regardless, the movie looks like a good time and a visual feast.

It is rumored that Alex Pardee has been one of the artists tapped for character design in this film, which is exciting to hear. Pardee’s brand of twisted visuals should take this project to another level. Look for more info to be posted at the film’s website, and check out the trailer in high definition at Apple Trailers. We’ll be on the lookout for concept art by Pardee and others as more information on this film is released. Trailer embedded below. (more…)

Review: DEVO Live

DEVO

All live photography courtesy of Michael Pilmer

If you were to ask any of my close friends how excited I was to about going to see DEVO, they might throw around words like: “obsessive, weird, fan boy, annoying, and of course “Who’s DEVO?”” After a month of bombarding my Facebook page with 30 year old videos and new videos for their new album “Something For Everybody“, the day had finally come to make the journey to see DEVO. I knew it was going to be a good trip because 10 minutes into my drive I saw a rainbow (sadly, not full on double). (more…)
