Dave Quiggle

Dave Quiggle

Dave Quiggle is a name known for years amongst the straightedge hardcore scene. If you are familiar at all with Facedown Records you have seen their resident art director’s illustrations on countless album covers and t-shirt designs, most notably for his own bands xDisciplexAD, Jesus Wept, and No Innocent Victim.  His portfolio has evolved to encompass gorgeous digital compositions along with his traditional tattoo influenced style. Not surprisingly, he IS a tattoo artist but his busy schedule only allows him take appointments on a few specific weeks each year at Soul Expressions in Temecula, CA. Also especially sharp is his shirt line Black Rose District, featuring his work in shirt series based on the four horsemen, the ten commandments and the seven deadly sins.

Faceout Books showcases beautiful book covers. One obvious beauty is from Jim Tierney who adores several Jules Verne books by engaging the reader before narrative has a chance.

You can look a little deeper into the process including some preliminary drawings at Faceout Books Jim Tearney feature.

Little Friends of Printmaking – Year of the Tiger

This wonderful illustration by The Little Friends of Printmaking brings me back to sitting on a carpeted floor with a stack of Golden Books. I saw it on their Flickr page a few months ago, which explained that it was originally for Giant Robot’s “Year of the Tiger” show back in February, but due to some unfortunate equipment failure it was never printed. It looks like things got rolling again and they got a chance to go back and make this beautiful print which is now available in their webstore.
