Laura Laine

Laura Laine

Laura Laine is an illustrator that takes direct inspiration from notorious Victorian artist Aubrey Beardsley and injects a flow and sense of motion that the classic illustrator never captured. I was very impressed with her portfolio of advertising work, but mostly intrigued by her standalone ‘drawings’ section where there is no product to be sold alongside her figures.  See more after the break and much more at the artist’s Website.

Oliver Vernon at David B. Smith Gallery

Plumnet (detail) – 46″x54″ – Acrylic on Canvas – 2010

I’m lucky enough to be on the David B. Smith Gallery‘s physical mailing list and I regularly get beautiful postcards promoting their latest shows. The most recent one featuring the work of Oliver Vernon really caught my eye. The paintings have a beautiful chaotic, layered, almost three-dimensional look. The works are more about texture and composition rather than subject matter, but they’re all very interesting. You can enjoy a show preview at the David B. Smith Gallery’s website, and if you’re in the Denver, CO area, you can stop in and see these in person through May 1st.

To coincide with the show, the gallery has released 2 giclee prints of Vernon’s “The Flood” and “Full Bleed” paintings. Each print is $200, an edition of 25, and printed on premium art paper with a deckled edge. Images after the break.

Johnny Cupcakes Tour Videos

Johnny Cupcakes recently hit the road and is holding meet-and-greet events around the country. At the Johnny Cupcakes Blog, you can enjoy short documentary-style films about each stop on his tour. All of the shorts are very inspiring to any young entrepreneur, and feature fans of the line at interesting locations. For example, I was pretty impressed by the interior design at Wish in Atlanta, GA. The Suitcase Tour goes into May, so make sure to bookmark the blog and keep revisiting for new videos.
