On July 9, Gallery 1988 will be opening their annual art show, Crazy 4 Cult 4: The Case of the Redundant Number. Crazy 4 Cult features the art of 100 talented artists, such as: Allison Sommers, Rich Pellegrino, Glen Brogan, and Michael Steele. The show has become a tradition in the LA area, now in it’s fourth showing. Crazy 4 Cult contains arist’s renditions and images of popular cult classics, such as Harold and Maude, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, and Back to the Future II.

On June 18 Dead Arts Publishing is announcing the release of Aaron Horkey’s Retrospective Letterpress Series. This will be part 1 in a 6 part series, with the rest coming out soon. Series 1 will costs $260 and will be limited to the amount sold in a 4 hour window on Friday June 18th (10am-2pm PST)
While photos of the actual product remain scarce, you can imagine the quality of these images meets Horkey’s eye for detail. You can get an idea of the actual product by the photo above. Images included in the first installment of this series are: The Rook (newly created for Series 1), The Scavenger (Fantomas – seen above), Drifting Monument (Racebannon) and Goatmeal (Melvins). Each of these images are available for purchase seperately as well, except The Rook, info after the break.

It’s like a concert tour but with sketchbooks.
We’re not even halfway through 2010, but you might want to start thinking about 2011 a bit. At least, if you are interested in participating in The Sketchbook Project, 2011.
Organized by Art House Co-op, a group that seeks to create large art projects that tie hundreds to thousands of artists together, the newest incarnation of their Sketchbook Project for 2011 is possibly the most ambitious attempt yet. Unlike other sketchbook sharing and interactive projects, this one gives each artist their own book to work with, rather than depending on artists to share and ship books among themselves.
Which, honestly? Is probably a good thing. Each person is responsible for their own destiny and whatnot. It’s pretty sensible. (more…)
