Tony Millionaire

Tony Millionaire

Tony Millionaire is a comic artist and illustrator. He’s most famous for his creation of and continued work on the alternative comic Maakies. Maakies is a rarity in that his comics contain a main comic and a subcomic. His comic has been adapted into shorts that appeared sporadically on SNL in the 90’s. Most recently they were adapted into “The Drinky Crow Show” for Adult Swim. Millionaire’s style is different for a comic strip in that regardless of the subject matter, they are very high quality drawings. Now for the subject matter, blue might not even do it justice. It is most of the time vulgar and deplorable. Definitely NSFW, but if you’re willing to get past the shock of it, you’ll find one of the funniest comic minds out there.

If you are interested in obtaining Tony Millionaire’s Maakies back catalog, you can purchase volumes on amazon here and here.

Aidan Hughes

Aidan Hughes

Aidan Hughes is a British commercial artist that specializes in high contrast illustrations. He has been active in the art world for over 30 years now and his style is highly recognizable by thick black lines. He is probably most famous for his album covers for the band KMFDM. A lot of Hughes work uses a black and white color scheme or black and white with accent colors. His primary influence has been stated as Cold War era Russian propaganda. As such, most of his work deals with the idea of violence, oppression, and revolt. For more information,  check out his blog.

Laura Laine

Laura Laine

Laura Laine is an illustrator that takes direct inspiration from notorious Victorian artist Aubrey Beardsley and injects a flow and sense of motion that the classic illustrator never captured. I was very impressed with her portfolio of advertising work, but mostly intrigued by her standalone ‘drawings’ section where there is no product to be sold alongside her figures.  See more after the break and much more at the artist’s Website.

Kris Kuksi

Kris Kuksi
A Tribute to the Madness of Beethoven – Mixed Media Assemblage – 35.5″ x 36″ – 2009

Kris Kuksi creates mind-blowing sculptures. His complex, shrine-like pieces are unlike anything I’ve ever seen and mystify me each time I view them. Judging by the artist’s website, he has lately been focusing on sculpture, but in his portfolio you can see that Kuksi is an extremely gifted painter and draftsman.

You can see more images after the break but a real treat is visiting the website and seeing the large images on display there. You can also pre-order a book of Kuksi’s work enttiled “Divination and Delusion” due out September 2010.

Dan Grzeca

Dan Grzeca (pronounced “Jetsah”) is a chicago-based artist that we really love. With his unique hand-drawn style, he creates fantastic multi-layered, painterly silkscreen prints and gigposters. The best part is, he’s got a lot of work available for purchase at really nice prices at his etsy shop. More images after the break and a lot more work you can check out at his blog and store.

Andy Kehoe

Andy Kehoe

Andy Kehoe is an excellent artist out of Portland, OR. Much of his work exists in an alternate reality where large beasts made of wood, leaves, feathers and hair roam freely.  You can check out his website and his flickr feed for his latest work. As usual, check out more images after the break.

Our favorite news of the day: Andy has several art prints still available in his Etsy Shop.
