This is too cool for words. The Vader Project, as many of you might imagine, is a collection of 100 customized Darth Vader helmets.
All 100 Helmets will be auctioned at noon on July 10th at Freeman’s Auctioneers. The great part is, all of the helmets are available to view in nice quality on the auctioneer’s website. Many impressive artists partook in this event including Brian Morris (seen above), Dalek, Vanbeater, Tim Biskup, Kozik, Ferg, Mike Giant, and many more. Read the entire list here.
One of the helmets that stands out among the pack is Plasticgod’s “Praise The Lord” which is completely blinged out in silver and gold and covered in spikes, Shredder style. (see below) (more…)

Your favorite drunken feline is now available in episodic downloadable form in the Crappy Cat App for iPod/ iPhone. The app is free to download which gets you “Crap-ter 1: Hot Pursuit” at no charge, with future episodes costing only $0.99, including the currently available “Crap-ter 2: My Beer”. Each episode averages around 32 pages. Crappy Cat is the creation of Trevor Van Meter, a brilliant artist and co-founder of Jamungo. Check out the brightly colored screenshots below.

Do yourself a favor and check out the trailer for the upcoming animated comedy, Rango, starring the voice of Johnny Depp. The visual style of the film is stunning, and the composition of every scene is perfect. Top notch work by Paramount, who we’re not familiar with seeing attached to animated films like this. Watch the trailer in 1080p and look forward to the release of this film March 18, 2011.

Shepard Fairey’s next print is another portrait from his latest show at Deitch Projects. This time it is Iggy pop based on the photo by Ed Perlstein. The print is an 18″x24″ screen print in a signed and numbered edition of 450 for $65. You can pick this up if you’re fast enough on July 1st at a random time. On July 9, Gallery 1988 will be opening their annual art show, Crazy 4 Cult 4: The Case of the Redundant Number. Crazy 4 Cult features the art of 100 talented artists, such as: Allison Sommers, Rich Pellegrino, Glen Brogan, and Michael Steele. The show has become a tradition in the LA area, now in it’s fourth showing. Crazy 4 Cult contains arist’s renditions and images of popular cult classics, such as Harold and Maude, Pee-Wee’s Big Adventure, and Back to the Future II.

Tomorrow, June 30, Trela Media will be rereleasing The Autobiography and Sex Life of Andy Warhol, by John Wilcock. The book, originally released in 1971, contains interviews with the artist himself and by the people that were closest to him. Within it’s covers are numerous pictures of Warhol, his friends, and his art. It includes both color images and black and white images.

Tim Doyle is an illustrator from Austin, TX who runs Nakatomi Inc. His style is hand drawn, colorful and notably diverse. Doyle has produced a lot of products and amazingly still available is his “The Sea Also Rises – King of Crabs” print, seen above. This 5 color silkscreen measures 19″x25″ and is an edition of 150 for only $30. If you don’t care about purchasing limited items, Doyle also has his illustrations on a Zazzle store, which lets you pick up skateboards, mousepads, and even shoes adorned with his incredible imagery. Musical favorites Sparklehorse and Danger Mouse have teamed up to create a massive collaborative album, featuring guest spots by members of The Shins, The Flaming Lips, Super Furry Animals, Grandaddy, The Strokes, The Pixies, The Cardigans, Neutral Milk Hotel, Suzanne Vega, Vic Chesnutt, Iggy Pop, and director David Lynch. It is evident by listening to the album that each guest musician had a hand in helping craft their track, making for an eclectic mix of sounds and moods, while managing to remain mostly cohesive.
