UP THERE is a new documentary featuring the dying craft of hand-painted advertising in New York. This is a beautifully-shot doc that features a unique profession that most probably don’t think about too often. You can learn more at the film’s website.
Thanks again to Tanner Woodford for another quality contribution.

It’s like a concert tour but with sketchbooks.
We’re not even halfway through 2010, but you might want to start thinking about 2011 a bit. At least, if you are interested in participating in The Sketchbook Project, 2011.
Organized by Art House Co-op, a group that seeks to create large art projects that tie hundreds to thousands of artists together, the newest incarnation of their Sketchbook Project for 2011 is possibly the most ambitious attempt yet. Unlike other sketchbook sharing and interactive projects, this one gives each artist their own book to work with, rather than depending on artists to share and ship books among themselves.
Which, honestly? Is probably a good thing. Each person is responsible for their own destiny and whatnot. It’s pretty sensible. (more…)

Ben Tour is a painter / illustrator from Vancouver who creates interesting portraits with a watercolors, using a very messy and drippy aesthetic. His portfolio is a bit cumbersome to navigate through but it is worth checking out. It appears that Tour has two silkscreen prints available at Black Market Editions (Kinsey’s people). The News section of Tour’s website acts as a blog and has a lot of neat updates about his latest work. You may not be a YO YO Master, but this is one yo yo that you don’t want to play with. Steve Brown Gallery has been releasing laser-etched wooden yoyos and their latest by Chris Ryniak is exceptionally cool. The cost is only $15 each with a limit of two per customer. Only 45 pieces were made so this is an extremely affordable limited item. One side features the artwork seen above, while the other side is engraved with the artist’s signature and the Steve Brown Gallery logo. You can visit the Steve Brown Gallery website on May 13th to pick one up.

We don’t write about too much music but this fantastic music video just came into the contribution box courtesy of Tanner Woodford. Francis and the Lights created this video in one take by strategically turning lights on and off to create live edits. The band has been touring with Drake and their latest album is really worth checking out if you dig the video above! You can also stream the band’s latest cd for free at their website.

Another gem from the Contribute Box!
Craze One is the illustration / design portfolio of Adam White, a talented creative from Lincoln, Nebraska. He has a nice portfolio of work seen here and currently has a new art print available for purchase. This print was printed by Eric Nyffeler of Doe-Eyed (who we featured a while back). The print is an 18″x24″ 3-color silkscreen on 100lb paper in an edition of only 100. The best thing is this print only costs $25. Get yourself one at Craze One.
